The Goal of Cooperativa

"The goal of Cooperativa is to provide greater access to credit as an affordable alternative to high interest credit cards and payday loans and also to provide a better deal for savers"

Cooperativa achieves this by:

• Reducing the lending risk associated with existing peer to peer lending platforms.

• Simplifying saving by creating a "simple saving" product available for non investment professionals similar to a bank deposit.

• Supporting the social initiative by reducing risk and allowing lenders to focus on the social benefits of lending and target professionals within particular industries/ sectors.

• Significantly increasing scalability, growth and penetration of peer to peer through large scale user rollout within already established groups and organisation Providing significant liquidity through the interconnection of these groups of borrowers and savers into an exchange

Cooperativa reduces the lending risk and social hurdle of familiarity associated with existing social lending offerings. By linking social lending within company based cooperatives, Cooperativa further improves the social lending model with a low default lightweight ‘simple savings’ product, significantly increasing liquidity provided by savers and credit available to borrowers.

Our Social Mission

"Cooperativa utilizes the natural networks that exist in the workplace for the collective economic benefit of its members. Cooperativa believes that this social capital has value that can be harnessed within the lending market"

The usefulness of cooperatives in many societies and cultures is widespread, where such structures have played a huge role in the socio-economic development of their members through the provision of credit and other significant benefits.

For example, in many developing countries farming cooperatives are used to finance crops, working capital and capital expenditure.Similarly more formal examples of cooperatives are credit unions which have the purpose of promoting thrift and providing credit at reasonable rates.

Social capital is the expected collective or economic benefits derived from the preferential treatment and cooperation between individuals and groups.

The Cooperativa platform harnesses the power of social capital within groups where individuals already know each other. This structure solves many of the pitfalls of current social lending platforms with lending between disparate groups of individuals without the benefit of a "social network" or "cooperative".
